Hello sewing universe –
As I start this blog, I thought now would be a great opportunity to share some of my favorite apparel sewing pattern companies with you. These companies are reputable, have great patterns & instructions, and hold value in my opinion. I think in the beginning, when you’re wanting to learn to sew, you are so overwhelmed with where to start. I’m hoping this guide helps you find a good pattern to start with, that will make you feel comfortable.
1. Petite Stitchery & Co

This was the first pattern company I ever worked with. I bought my daughter this cute outfit online and wanted to replicate it. So I bought the Hibiscus pattern and added the circle sleeves on. I was immediately impressed by how well their pattern instructions are written. It was great for a beginner like me. So, if you’re just getting started with sewing and want instructions that will really clearly get you through – I recommend them. Bonus: They’ve introduced a new grow chart for kids who don’t fit into the standard size range! It’s perfect for children who need more room in their clothes without jumping to adult sizes. This chart provides a more inclusive fit, ensuring comfort and style for every body type!
Another bonus: They more recently started doing AMAZING video tutorials of their patterns. They’re also really nice, so if you join their Facebook group and post when you’re stuck, someone will for sure be able to help you.
They offer Print-At-Home & Projector files.

Another raving review for a pattern company who has CUTE patterns & offers well-written instructions. I started pattern testing for them a couple years ago, and I am always just super excited for how fun their patterns are. I’ve really come to love their pattern designers and the other testers. I think that whatever pattern you choose will be a total hit. They also have a great Facebook group available for questions!

3. Little Lizard King

This one is pretty popular because they have THE frilly dress patterns. If you are into vintage or modern or even a little combination, this pattern company is the way to go. I would suggest choosing a simple beginner’s pattern before getting into the complicated patterns with ruffles & zippers first. However, I think you could absolutely make it through a pattern as a beginner based on great instructions. They have some of their kid patterns in adults over at Styla Patterns, their sister site, as well.
4. Lowland Kids

Lowland Kids is popular for their wide variety of basics – tees, joggers, etc. I’m a big fan of the Easy Set (pictured). Super comfy! They have great instructions and patterns.
5. Vintage Little Lady

Another frilly, vintage-esque pattern company! They have amazing patterns. Hands down.
6. Sustainable Cloth Co.

I can’t believe how long I waited to try out their patterns. They are so cute! The designers are amazing and I can see their dedication to proper sizing & good instructions. I highly recommend them. I don’t have an affiliate link but SCCFRIENDS gets you a discount.
